Typically, I keep topics security focused. I found this article on Lesswrong extremely interesting and thought provoking, which focuses on predicting how technology will look over the next 10 years. You can find that article HERE.
Where do I stand and what do I take away from this post …. well … I agree with many statements in that post that technology is moving way faster now than ever before. This will lead to creating more advancements over the next 5-10 years than we as humans have done over the last 100 years. There are predictions of nanobots connecting minds to the cloud essentially allowing humans to be as smart as the Internet sometimes referred to as the singularity. There are also predictions of machines becoming as smart and eventually smarter than all computers combined. This could lead to the destruction of humans or enforcement specific rules like not allowing systems to self-replicate or self-advanced without controls.
The most interesting personal thought is I look back at the concept of time travel like back to the future part 1. The extreme differences between when Marty sees the past vs his present are crazy. I feel like if I went back 30 years to the 90s, I wouldn’t stand out or feel so different. I try to think about the technology advancements I have personally lived through including computers and cell phones and yet, it’s not like back to the future 2 where you see flying cars and wonder how we got there. Considering AI and how things are changing now, 30 years in the future seems to be VERY different than 30 years in the past. Maybe I’m wrong like back to the future 2, which according to that movie’s timeline, already happened. If you look at the overall theme of people’s comments in that blog post, they all seem to predict 30 years from now will be like Bladerunner. Only time will tell …
